Sun Tanning Oil

The Wild As The Wind Sun Tanning Oil recipe is estimated to provide between 12 SPF and 18 SPF protection. It is impossible to provide an entirely accurate SPF as the SPF of natural oils traverse a spectrum. For example, Raspberry Seed Oil is variously recorded as having an SPF of anything between 28 SPF and 50 SPF depending on where it is grown, and how much sun the fruits get, and how nutrient dense the soil is. It makes it difficult to be entirely accurate!

If you wish to create a sun tanning oil with a higher SPF than the recipe provided below, then it is advised that you use the following:

Raspberry Seed Oil to obtain the highest natural SPF.

Pomegranate Seed Oil to achieve optimal moisturising effects.

A ratio of 2:1 of Raspberry Seed Oil to Pomegranate Seed Oil will provide a good level of protection for most skin types.

Aftersun

Rosehip Oil is the best oil for using as an aftersun. Use Aloe Vera to help stimulate new cell growth and then apply Rosehip Oil to lock it in.

Wild As The Wind carry an excellent quality Organic Rosehip Oil and an exceptional Wild Crafted Organic Rosehip Oil

***Organic Lavender Essential Oil and/or Organic Geranium Essential Oil can be added for their skin protection and healing benefits as well as their aroma. Refer to Using Essential Oils for dilution advice.

All Natural Sun Tanning Oil 12 SPF – 18 SPF

We recommend you make the Wild As The Wind Sun Tanning Oil Formula from entirely natural oils, each of which will offer a different range of healing properties. As conventional sunscreen has finally been clinically proven to be causing the majority of skin cancers, it is essential to use a natural product on your skin.

Wild As The Wind Sun Tanning Oil Formula

Ingredients

Carrier Oils

Wheatgerm Oil :: 25%

Baobab Oil :: 20%

Sweet Almond Oil :: 25%

Apricot Kernel Oil :: 15%

Raspberry Seed Oil :: 10%

Essential Oils

Lavender Essential Oil

Geranium Essential Oil

Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Citronella Essential Oil

Clary Sage Essential Oil

Wheatgerm Oil

Organic Wheatgerm Oil has a natural SPF of 20 and is deeply nourishing for the skin.

Baobab Oil

Baobab Oil has a natural SPF of 5 and is profoundly moisturising for the skin.

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Almond Oil has a natural SPF of 6 and has a very conditioning effect on the skin.

Apricot Kernel Oil

Apricot Kernel Oil is not so easily absorbed as the other oils and so it leaves an attractive sheen on the surface of the skin. This is particularly useful if the skin has not gained any colour. Pale skin, without a hint of a tan, can look a little transparent. Plus it reveals every blemish and imperfection. The sheen that Apricot Kernel Oil lends the skin improves the appearance of the skin considerably. This oil is optional.

*If you choose to leave Apricot Kernel out of your blend, you can increase the amount of one of the other oils. If you would like to increase the SPF factor you can do so be replacing Apricot Kernel with one of the high SPF oils.

Raspberry Seed Oil

Raspberry Seed Oil is the ingredient with the highest SPF, which is the main reason for it’s inclusion in this blend. It is, however, a very attractive smelling oil, that exerts a very healing influence on the skin.

Essential Oils

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender Essential Oil has been added for it’s ability to treat burns and it’s aromatic qualities.

Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium Essential Oil is one of the most popular essential oils due to it’s beautiful floral aroma. It is optional as it is chiefly added to the recipe for it’s aroma. However, it is very healing for the skin and so will exert a healing effect on the skin during sun exposure.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil possesses an impressive array of healing properties. It scavenges free radicals and is an impressive agent against oxidative stress.

Citronella Essential Oil

Citronella Essential Oil is very anti-inflammatory and mosquitoes hate it. Wilst it lends this blend a lot of very useful healing properties, it was added to this oil blend fro it’s insect repellent properties.

Clary Sage Essential Oil

Clary Sage Essential Oil is the beautiful oil from a delicate purple flowering plant. It is the most hormone balancing Essential Oil of all.
